What's Happening

Fri May 6, 2005, 5:04 PM
I was sitting in class this morning, American Experience. Everyday we have to read the newspaper for 20 minutes. Everyday I look at the front of it. The cover stroy generally contains something like, "Teens Killed In Crash." or "Gang Rivals Have A Shootout." Another typical one is, "5 Year Old Killed or Abducted," to some extent. I know what's happening, it's called "Life," but really, what's happening in this world? Is there really anything positive? There is, but the sad thing is, people don't wanna read about that. They would much rather read the stories about people getting shot and killed. Don't people get tired of reading depressing stuff? The artice that really got me thinking today was, "2 Teens Killed In Car Crash." A long with the 2 that were killed, another couple was involved too. The girl was injued, but nothing severe, and the guy was taken by life flight to the hospital were he is now in critical condition.

I guess I'm just tired of hearing about people dieing, its so sad. I know it's part of life, but to hear and read about numerous events daily about it, is overwhelming. Especially when it's teens involved. These are supposed to be the best years of our lives, yet so many are getting cut short all because of one stupid decision they made.

I continue looking through the paper...next article, "18 Year Old Found On Street Corner Almost Beaten To Death." Story behind that, no one really knows. They have a few leads but not sure about much.

The only thing that I really read positive in any of them, was in the article about the 2 teens dying. There was a candle light serivce held at the school, a student who goes there drove up in his car, half way through the service, opend his car doors, and played the song "Time Of Your Life" by Green Day. "It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right. I hope you had the time of your life." The words to that are so true.

I really relate to all that having a friend of mine killed in a car accident. Though it wasn't a stupid decision on his part that got him killed, it was a stupid decision on the other driver involved part. He crossed the center line because he was drunk.

I wish people would "grow up a little" and see that you only live once. I'm not saying be a "Goody 2 Shoes" about everything, but just think a little before you act. If it doesn't affect you in some way, it will affect someone else even if you don't intend for it to happen it will, and then in some way, shape, or form, it comes back to affect you. So just think!

That's my "rant" for the day. Something I've been thinking about for awhile and it finally hit me hard today.

You said it yourself, enough good things happen in this world, people just aren't interested in that :petting:

Damn, that's what you get from pressing submit too soon. What I was gonna say: it's a shame, a bloody shame.

Yeah, it is. Weird thing is, no one likes to hear about stuff like that when it's one of their friends or family members, yet, when its someone else, they enjoy reading about it and want to hear about it. It's so messed up!

Maybe it makes them feel better about their life when they know others have even tougher times :\

My dear Amy, you're absolutely right. These articles are the last things you'd need to hear as a teen trying to enjoy life. You'll probably notice that when you hit your twenties, you'll find yourself noticing victims in their twenties getting killed. Perhaps the Art section would have something more positive?
Hang in there, hun. :cuddle: Focus on the good things in life, recognize the bad things and learn from them. The one thing better than learning from your own mistakes is learning from those of others.
